Join Hunt Hill in learning how to carve your own beautifully twisted walking stick out of Diamond Willow. Participants will learn a basic introduction to diamond willow, the different techniques of carving your walking stick, and the carving tools that will be used. Limited gauge tools will be available to borrow and use.

This will be a “hands-on” workshop, meaning that while some information will be presented to the group, some time will be spent hiking around outdoors ”hunting” for your own stick followed by carving time back at Hunt Hill. We will travel to a different location to select the piece or pieces to harvest and carve and then we will work on stripping bark from your selected stick and begin the carving process. You will then complete your carving and finish at home.

• What to bring: a bag lunch, personal snacks and beverages, waterproof and sturdy boots, warm clothing, & rain gear (depending on weather).
• Optional items: small pruning saw for cutting diamond willow branches, work gloves, carving tools (such as gouges, carving knives, palm tools, etc), tools for peeling bark (for example, a draw knife) and patience.
