Field tour of 225+ acre property with managed prairie, savanna, wetland, and forest habitats. Presentations on attracting wildlife, forest management, controlling invasives, and developing a wildlife plan.

On Saturday, Dr. Damian Vraniak will lead a field tour of his 225+ acre property along the Namekagon River.  The tour will include scenic stops highlighting 40+ years of habitat restoration efforts on his family’s land including prairie, savanna, wetland, and forest habitats.  He will also highlight wildlife restoration projects involving rare species such as the wood turtle and Franklin’s ground squirrels.  His Native American and Métis ancestry informs several aspects of his management and provides a fascinating perspective on land management.

Sunday’s program will take place at Hunt Hill Audubon Sanctuary and will be led by Jamie Nack, Extension Wildlife Outreach Specialist.  Forest and wildlife professionals from state and federal agencies, as well as non-profit organizations will present information on topics such as attracting wildlife, forest management practices, controlling invasive plants, and developing a wildlife management plan.  Professionals will also share information about programs and financial assistance available to private landowners.

More information to come!
