Two-Day Workshops

Two-Day Workshops qualify for WI Master Naturalist Advanced Trainings, but all adults are welcome to register. No prior experience is needed!

AMAZING MIGRATORY BIRDS

Date: Saturday, May 17 – Sunday, May 18, 2025

Saturday: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Sunday: 8:30 am – 3:00 pm

Program Fee: $195/person. Includes lodging, Saturday lunch and dinner & Sunday breakfast and lunch.

Please join us for a fun and informative weekend of presentations and guided birding with Bill Volkert, retired WI DNR educator and naturalist. Bill has been featured as Wisconsin’s bird expert on Wisconsin Public Radio for more than 30 years.  He has traveled the world birding and teaching about birds.

Here is the suggested packing list:

  • Clothing appropriate for all kinds of weather
  • WI Master Naturalist name tags (if you have one)
  • Rain gear, waterproof boots and hat
  • Insect repellant
  • Sunscreen
  • Backpack
  • Notebook and pen or pencil
  • Waders and/or rubber boots
  • Sleeping bag or other bedding
  • Coffee cup and water bottle
  • Any beverages (alcoholic or otherwise) for happy hour, dinner, and campfire

Registration will be at 9:30 AM on Saturday, May 17th, in the library with dorm move-in to follow. 

We will finish at 3:00 PM on Sunday.

 – Shorebird ID

 – The Journey of a Thousand Lifers (Bill’s round-the-world birding and sight-seeing trip where he observed more than 1300 species of birds). There will be lots of time birding around the various habitats of Hunt Hill Nature Center, with Bill guiding us with his extensive knowledge of migratory birds.

Dr. Ken Bradbury, retired Wisconsin State Geologist and director of the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey, will lead this two-day workshop on the geology of Wisconsin.

LAKE ECOLOGY, SHORELAND PROTECTION AND RESTORATION

This workshop will introduce concepts of Lake Ecology, especially as they pertain to shoreland protection and restoration on lakefront properties.  Other topics include best practices for lakeshore restoration, advantages of native plants, the benefits of aquatic plants, “fish sticks” and practical help with grants and resources for restoration.  The workshop will include indoor lectures and outdoor field trips, including visiting examples of best management practices of  lakefront properties on nearby lakes.

CANCELLATION POLICY

  • Participants who cancel online or notify Hunt Hill by email or phone at least 48 hours before the program or event will receive a refund minus a 10% processing fee.* 
  • Participants can choose to receive their refund via their payment method or keep it as a credit** for a future program. 
  • Participants who cancel less than 48 hours before the program will not receive a refund or credit.
  • Participants who cancel online or notify Hunt Hill by email or phone, at least 15 days before the day of the program or event will receive a full refund minus a 10% processing fee.*
  • Participants who cancel less than 15 days will not receive a refund or credit, unless their spot can be filled by another participant. If filled, a refund will be issued minus a 10% processing fee.*
  • Participants who cancel 48 hours or less before the program will not receive a refund or credit.

Refunds will follow the same procedures as the ‘Programs Over $25/person’, except that:

  • If a participant cancels less than 15 days before the first day of Spanish Camp and the spot cannot be filled, the participant will receive a ½ refund (no additional 10% processing fee assessed).
  • If a participant has to leave during the week of camp, a refund of $50/night will be refunded.

If Hunt Hill has to cancel a program or event, all paid registrants will receive a full refund or credit.

 *There is no processing fee assessed on refunds kept as credit or when the participant paid with cash or check.

**Credits can be held until December 31 of the year the cancellation was made. After that, credit is forfeited. Hunt Hill is unable to offer refunds for credits requested and not used.
